Special Counsel Weiss to Seek September Indictment of Hunter Biden

Special counsel David Weiss’s office has indicated that it will seek an indictment against first son Hunter Biden by the end of the month.

“The Speedy Trial Act requires that the Government obtain the return of an indictment by a grand jury by Friday, September 29, 2023, at the earliest. The Government intends to seek the return of an indictment in this case before that date,” prosecutors wrote in a filing NBC News obtained.

Weiss (pictured above) pursued a five-year investigation into the younger Biden in his capacity as the U.S. Attorney for Delaware. The investigation faced accusations of political interference from a pair of IRS agents working on the case.

Supervisory Special Agent Gary Shapley and Special Agent Joseph Ziegler have claimed that Biden-appointed officials interfered to prevent the bringing of the more severe charges against Hunter Biden. Moreover, they have claimed that Weiss sought special counsel status from Attorney General Merrick Garland to permit him to bring charges outside of his jurisdiction but was denied.

Garland later named Weiss special counsel amid scrutiny of a prospective plea agreement with the first son that critics characterized as unduly lenient. That agreement has since been dropped.
